[News] Yoon Shi-yoon begins filming on 'One Hundred Percent'.

[News] Yoon Shi-yoon begins filming on 'One Hundred Percent'.
    Cr. - javabeans

Last year’s breakout star Yoon Shi-yoon has just begun filming on his new movie, One Hundred Percent, where he plays a former pro golfer who develops aphasia — a language disorder — after an accident. Heading to a mountain village for recuperation, he comes across an elementary school that’s on the brink of closure and becomes a teacher there in a warm “human comedy.”

Note: The title is a pun (Koreans love them their puns!), wherein it it can be read either as 100% or Baek Pro, in reference to this character’s name, Baek Se-jin. The “pro” in the second meaning alludes to his former golfer status (people call him Baek Pro as a nickname), but probably also carries other symbolic connotations.

The first day of shoots, pictured in these stills, took place at the small branch school, which features only six students. Feeling sorry for these kids, Baek Pro tries to help out by playing teacher, which is an exercise in awkwardness and exacerbated by his aphasia, a condition that hampers one’s ability to communicate.

Each of the six kids has a distinct personality, and communicate to their handsome teacher from Seoul with expressions and gestures. While Yoon Shi-yoon almost looks too baby-faced to be teaching young’uns (he’s 24), I can picture him playing the bumbling oppa (and hyung) to the adorable hilt. Aw, I can feel my cynical old heart melting already.

'One Hundred Percent' will shoot through March, and plans to release in the summer.

[News] Yoon Shi-yoon scores first leading role in film.

[News] Yoon Shi-yoon scores first leading role in film.
    Cr. - javabeans

Last year’s king of baking and king of ratings Yoon Shi-yoon (Baker King Kim Tak-gu) lands his first leading role in the movie One Hundred Percent, about…golf. Really? What’s with the golf stories lately? Didn’t they notice what happened to Birdie Buddy? I get that it’s a big sport, but it’s the dramatic appeal that’s lost on me. Oh well. Yoon Shi-yoon managed to make the whole country care about baking, so maybe he’s got it in him to start some golf frenzy. Ha. Now that’s an oxymoron. Isn’t golf the sport where the audience does the silent clap?

Yoon Shi-yoon will be playing…wait for it…a GENIUS pro golfer. Pfft. Oh, K-Drama/Film-land. Sigh. Why does every character have to be a frickin’ genius at something? It makes me laugh to think that based on these odds, everyone and their mother in Korea is a genius. Throw a stone, hit a genius. Why yes, that person makes a good cup of coffee, but he’s no ordinary barista. He’s a genius barista!

On an up note, it’s a comedy, so there’s potential to see a new side of Yoon Shi-yoon, and for it to not take the genius thing too seriously. It’ll be helmed by first-time director Kim Myung-kyun, and rounded out by veterans Chun Ho-jin (Paradise Ranch), Park Sang-myun (Mary’s papa in Mary Stayed Out All Night), Lee Byung-joon (Principal Shi in Dream High, Director Park in Secret Garden), and Lee Kyung-young (Invincible).

Yoon said, “It’s the first time in my life I’ve ever played golf, so it’s hard. But since I learned the form, I’m falling in love with the sport. It’s a lot of pressure to play the lead in a movie for the first time, but I won’t get cold feet and I’m going to do my best.”

And while Yoon Shi-yoon is no genius actor, he’s a pretty darn good one, for a relative newbie, and I’m looking forward to seeing him in more comedic roles. Perhaps it’ll be a nice transitional project out of makjang-land and into a rom-com? One Hundred Percent starts shooting this weekend.

[Poster & News] "I Saw The Devil" in the Spotlight at Sundance / "I Saw The Devil" Trailer released.

'I Saw The Devil' Korean Movie Trailer

[VOD & News] "I Saw The Devil" in the Spotlight at Sundance / "I Saw The Devil" Trailer released.
    Cr. - hancinema

Since AICN debuted the U.S. poster for "I Saw the Devil" a couple of weeks ago at http://www.aintitcool.com/node/48083, excitement had been building for the presentation of the Kim Ji-woon revenge thriller at Sundance 2011 (January 20-30). And audiences were not disappointed.

As IndieWire's SPOUT headlined, "'I Saw the Devil' is a Bloody Good Revenge Movie". Starring Lee Byeong-Heon and Choi Min-sik, the Korean movie has already been acquired for distribution by Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, specializing in films from the vanguard of horror, action, comedy and Asian cinema. March 4 release is scheduled here.
Or as ScreenCrave puts it: "Director Kim Ji-woon's latest thriller doesn't hold back and doesn't hesitate to go where you really don't (but secretly do) want it to go".

And a writeup in DreadCentral describes "I Saw the Devil" as both "shockingly violent and stunningly accomplished".

Korean Shocker 'I SAW THE DEVIL' Heads to North America

Magnet Releasing has announced they've picked up the North American film distribution rights for 'I SAW THE DEVIL', a Korean thriller that made headlines in South Korea last month when director Kim Jee-Woon was forced to trim between eighty and ninety seconds of graphic violence from the film before it would be granted a rating, thus allowing for distribution of the film in Korea.

In 'I SAW THE DEVIL' Lee Byung-Hyun stars as Dae-Hoon, a special agent whose pregnant wife becomes the latest victim of a disturbed and brutal serial killer, played by OLDBOY’s Choi Min-Sik. Vowing revenge, Dae-Hoon blurs the lines between hunter and hunted and good and evil, eventually becoming a monster himself in his twisted pursuit of revenge.

'I Saw The Devil' Korean Movie Trailer release in first quarter on January 2011.

[News] Kim Myung-min and Han Ji-min pair up for 'Allure' Magazine.

[News] Kim Myung-min and Han Ji-min pair up for 'Allure' Magazine.
    Cr. - javabeans

Kim Myung-min and Han Ji-min have a new movie about to hit theaters — the sageuk mystery with a comedic bent, Joseon’s Great Detective — and are featured looking rather cool and sexy together in this photo shoot for Allure Korea magazine, which also features an interview with the duo.

I love Kim Myung-min in comedies, so I’ve been looking forward to this movie, especially since he’s been doing more dramatic stuff lately — he played a pastor who loses faith when his daughter is kidnapped in The Demolished Man, and prior to that took on the role of a man dying of Lou Gehrig’s disease in My Love By My Side. Joseon’s Great Detective, on the other hand, looks quirky and a bit dark at the same time; here are the stills from the movie, and here’s the trailer.

The concept of the photo shoot is Bond & Bond Girl (glam ’80s style?), which I suppose also riffs (loosely) on their roles in the movie, where Kim plays a top detective and Han plays a femme fatale who is the key to solving the case. (Hm, I wonder if the second dress is the same one worn by Kim Tae-hee in My Princess…)

The movie releases in a week on January 27.Source URL: https://alayblogss.blogspot.com/search/label/Movies%20News
